Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) is an American independent hip-hop record label home to Schoolboy Q, Kendrick Lamar, and dare I say the next big R&B star SZA. At 23-years-old Solana Rowe, better known as SZA (pronounced Sizza), is TDE’s first singer and first female signee. Born in St. Louis and raised in New Jersey SZA delivers neo-soul, R&B, and hip-hop to the hearts of her fans.
The school I attend, Hofstra University has an annual outdoor festival which is called Hofstra Music Fest. Hofstra Music Fest is always a great time. Over the past 8 years Hofstra Concerts and Entertainment Unlimited, the clubs that host Hofstra Music Fest, have brought acts such as Young the Giant, SZA, Vic Mensa, ASTR, 21 Pilots, Joey BadA$$, Big Boi, Charlene Kaye, Bear Hands, London Souls, Cults, and many more to Hofstra’s stage.
SZA preformed in front of nearly 5,000 Hofstra students at the 8th annual Hofstra Music Fest which was held on May 3, 2014. I have never heard any of SZA’s music and didn’t know of her existence prior to attending Hofstra Music Fest.
SZA got her start in 2011, when she accidentally ran into TDE president and her friend forced her to share her music with him. The TDE president liked her material and on October 29, 2012, SZA debut her self-released her EP See.SZA.Run. A few months later, in April of 2013 SZA released a mixtape titled S. On July 14, 2013 it was announced that SZA had signed a deal with Top Dawg Entertainment. SZA released her third EP titled Z just one year after releasing her second EP. SZA is best known for her songs Child’s Play featuring Chance The Rapper, Babylon featuring Kendrick Lamar, Julia, Warm Winds featuring Isaiah Rashad, and HiiiJack.
SZA is active on all of her social networking sites and frequently responds to fan inquiries on her Tumblr.
